T.R. Knight Profile Picture
Short bios available below.

Who is Thomas R. Knight? Or is it T.R. Knight?

My full name is Thomas R. Knight but I have been called T.R. since birth. My mom really liked initials and it separated me from my dad, Tommy, and grandfather Thomas A. No, I am not a junior even though we all have variations of Thomas, but that is another story you can ask if we meet. I use T.R. Knight most of the time but have chosen to return to my full name for some of my creative pursuits.

What can you tell us about yourself?

I truly embrace the moniker of geek—loving technology, science, literature, cinema, gaming, crafting, gardening, musicals, and more. I worked for over twenty-five years in Information Technology at Taylor University, a returning 1993 graduate with a degree in Physics and Environmental Science. In August of 2021, I started a new position as Director of Bible Translation Software at SIL International. I have been blessed with the opportunity to teach courses in Game Studies, Writing & Editing for Gaming, and Tabletop Game Writing Lab, based on my work as an ENnie Award winning freelance editor and proofreader in the tabletop games industry, working on board game and rpg-related projects for various publishers.

Are there special people in your life?

Angie and T.R. Knight

I am so glad you asked! There are three amazing women in my life. First, there is the love of my life, my best friend, my care, my wildflower, my wife, Angie. She encourages my eclectic array of hobbies and creative pursuits and provides a supportive yet critical eye to the stories I love to tell. I love her dearly. Something to note, my wife has Multiple Sclerosis and I am her caregiver. I will often discuss topics of MS, Accessibility, and Caregiving in my blog.

Angie and I are blessed with wonderful twin daughters, Rachel and Emily, who are changing the world, each in their own way. They tolerate my dad humor, reflect strongly the love I have for them, challenge my perspective of the world, and provide wonderful sounding boards for creativity.

What do you do in your spare time?

I tend to keep myself busy. I enjoy vegetable and herb gardening, canning my own jams and pickles, cooking and baking, playing tabletop games and rpgs, reading lots of books, watching cinema, and walking around my small town. I gain great satisfaction from repairing and repurposing things around my house or that I find in secondhand shops. I am currently learning the joys and frustrations of painting miniatures.

What fandoms do you enjoy?

I have passion for the works of the Inklings, especially J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth and C.S. Lewis’ Narnia, amassing quite a library of related books, media, and games. I am also quite the science fiction cinema fan with a significant interest in Doctor Who, Godzilla, Star Trek, The X-Files, Babylon 5, Firefly, The Middleman, The Expanse, and The Mandalorian. Other random fandoms include 80s Music, Scooby-Doo, Westerns, Superheroes, Cyberpunk, and Post-Apocalyptic.

Where do you want to be in five years?

I want to tell stories. I have been blogging and freelancing in the tabletop game industry for over five years now and helping others tell their stories. I enjoy that immensely, but I have this passion to tell my own stories as well now that I have learned so much about the process. I love researching, building up a story concept, then telling collaborative stories on the fly as a game master of roleplaying games. Writing those stories requires new skills and additional efforts.
