Do you like playing games? Do you enjoy cooking? Do you like to occasionally have more than just soda pop and potato chips as snacks for game night? In this Monday blog series, game industry personalities will be sharing some of their favorite recipes for game night munchies. Welcome to Gaming Gastronomy! This week our snacking buffet comes from Daniel Fisher of InnRoads Ministries.

I will let Daniel (Blog, Facebook, Twitter, Website, YouTube) introduce himself…

Husband, Father, Pastor, Gamer.

I was born and raised in Kingsport, Tennessee, and I still live there. Growing up, my family played the classics: Monopoly, Clue, Yahtzee, Sorry, etc. But at 13 I played D&D by accident for the first time… (I was in a comic shop on a Saturday morning and was asked to jump in) and at 15 I was really introduced to gaming with Heroquest, Warhammer 40k and 2nd edition D&D. In high school we used to know who was a gamer by the sounds from their backpack – if you could hear magic cards in the card cases bouncing around, you knew they played. That’s how I made friends.

Even though I grew up in church, I didn’t receive Christ until I was in my early 30s, and I had been married for almost 5-6 years.

I’m the first volunteer of Innroads and I run the “East Tennessee Branch.” We try to have game days on a regular basis, but we are having a hard time getting churches in the area to bite. The only one that really wants me to run game days is my church. So I’m doing game days at our library and teaching tiger scouts the joys of gaming!

I do have different food requirements for adults vs kids and it depends on the games we are playing…

If I’m doing something we my small group, we have a tendency to set up a taco bar with my famous (not really) nacho cheese (Velveeta, milk and Rotel)

If I’m gaming with kids, I will make pizza. Personally I like to take the Chef Boyardee pizza kits, replace the cheese and add toppings. I could go fancy, but this is a comfort food for me. Growing up, I lived with my grandmother, and if we had the money (food stamps) once a month we would by a kit and she would make it for me. So I like to make it for my kids and serve it with cold milk. It just reminds me of growing up.

Now if I’m with “The Guys” Wings… Wings… Wings…. I have a deep fryer just for wings… Wings are basic but I’m really good at it. I take the wingettes and dip them in flour mixed with salt, pepper, then egg mix, then back in flour and fry them at 350 for 7 minutes. When done I spin them in a bowl with a lid. My sauce is simple…

1 bottle of Frank’s Hotsauce
1 stick of butter
Garlic power to taste

Usually this is a main meal but I will have snacks…
small group – fruit with chocolate dip
kids – Doritos
guys – Funyuns (we are classic)

Now if you request it before game night, I will make “Boneless” wings, but you will be made fun of all night.

Drinks will vary with my small group. We stay away from sodas – mainly  water, milk, or juice.

With the kids I get soda or koolaid.

With the guys it is usually soda we are classic with our tastes…

In the coming weeks, check back here on Mondays for more delectable recipes from personalities around the game industry.
