This weekend is the Thanksgiving holiday here in the US. With all the challenges regarding my back surgery and being apart from Angie, I am really looking forward to extended time with my family. So much to be thankful for this year as a freelancer. It has been another year of incredible creative projects working with Stronghold Games, a wonderful Gen Con experience with my family, and I had the opportunity to teach a new course this fall in collaboration with Chaosium, Tabletop Game Writing Lab, where the students and I are designing and publishing an adventure for the Call of Cthulhu rpg. I have been blessed this year as a gamer and a freelancer.

But with those celebrations, we have had challenges as well. My back injury and subsequent surgery significantly impacted us these past two months. Angie lived with her parents for seven weeks about an hour away while I was at home working and managing significant changes to our home to make it more accessible (new flooring, new roll-in shower, and accessibility equipment). Once again, we are in a time of finding a new normal for us. If you have followed my blog for long, you know that Multiple Sclerosis has kept our life in flux for many years. Through it all, Angie and I have grown closer together through the highs and the lows.

Thanksgiving can be a great time to reflect on our lives, both the celebrations and the challenges. The celebrations are easy to remember and share, but the challenges teach us and help us grow. Through it all, be thankful always.
